The paths and climbs (approx. 230 km in total) are mainly maintained by the national park administration. They enable a variety of different mountain tours. The national park administration offers hikes for adults and special hikes for children. Selected trails are open to cyclists. Environmentally friendly electrically powered passenger boats operate on the Königssee. The bathing ban in the waters of the national park has been lifted since 1987.
Der Ramsauer Malerweg
The starting point of the Malerweg is the village center of Ramsau with its world-famous church. The Malerweg leads through the legendary magic forest, one of Bavaria's most beautiful geotopes, to the Hintersee. The Hintersee is 18 meters deep at its deepest point. In combination with smaller inflows of fresh mountain spring water, this results in a maximum water temperature of 16 ° even in the summer months. So it is only suitable to a limited extent for bathing.
The painters of romanticism
In the 19th century, the Ramsau and especially the Hintersee were discovered by artists from all over Europe as a landscape of painters. Carl Rottmann, Ferdinand Waldmüller, Friedrich Gauermann and even Wilhelm Busch visited this beautiful mountain valley. During the scenic and artistically adventurous hike on the Ramsau painter path, you can admire the wonderful motifs in real life on display boards at the preferred painter's positions and compare them with the paintings on site. Particularly popular motifs of the painters were the Ramsau village, the farmers in their traditional costumes, the mighty mountain scenery and the dreamy Hintersee. A total of 26 panels with historical paintings line the Malerweg between the church and the Hirschbichl Pass.
